Against Caltrain litigation

Dear City Council members,

I understand that the city council is considering joining a lawsuit against Caltrain over electrification. I respectfully urge the city council not to join the lawsuit.

Caltrain is near capacity, and electrification is required to allow us to run more trains. If we don't add more trains, we are going to disappoint a lot of Peninsula residents and workers who want to take the train to work, and we are going to see a lot more traffic on 101 and El Camino Real as those people drive instead.

While I agree that electrification is going to cause some problems, trying to block the project outright by suing Caltrain will likely backfire, causing more traffic and making it harder rather than easier to resolve those problems.

I suggest that we as a city should work productively with Caltrain to address these issues - just as Palo Alto and other cities on the Peninsula have decided.

Thank you,
