Downtown development

Honorable memebers of the City Council:

How about rezoning Roble and Live Oak to permit 5 story residential buildings with underground parking. The current buildings are old, rundown and don't appear to be earthquake safe. The increased number of residents in new "trendy" apartments and condos in close proximity to Santa Cruz Avenue would walk to that commercial center and use it. Unfortunately people who will live in the new residential space that Stanford is developing are as likely to walk to University Ave as they are to Santa Cruz. These new residents will need area rugs and may keep the perpetually going-out-of-business rug stores in business for a while.
