Economic Development Goals

Council -
For your consideration during this evening's discussion of Economic
Development goals, by draft Goal:

1. Set a Goal & Restore the Sales Tax Base - I suggest making this
Set a Goal & Restore a *Strong* Sales Tax Base
Note - this should reference not only consumer retail but also
Business-to-Business sales
5. “Leverage Opportunities in the M2” - this only speaks to startups and
upfront developer money, and reads as if it were a one-time goal.. A
stronger goal would be to encourage businesses that will provide ongoing
direct revenue to the city.
7. Identify Foci for Land Use Change - These is a reasonable goal but the
text references only "walkable urbanism".. A much stronger goal would
encompass the goods and services our residential and business community
need to find within our city. Some things, such as accessible car repair
shops and phone/electronics stores, provide revenue to the city and high
value to residents and employees; these should have identifiable "homes"
that won't be driven out by uses that developers find more profitable.

Respectfully submitted,
Patti Fry
