Mr. and Mrs. Critzer - thank you for your comments about the Skate Jam event on September 27 and 28. Mr. Hiltbrand has submitted a permit application and has received Conditional Approval for the event as he has gone through all the proper channels and met the City's requirements for any special event. At least one police officer will be assigned to the event for each day and the road closure will not prevent any resident from accessing their property.

The event has been held previously, between 2010 and 2012, without incident or complaint from neighbors so there has been no reason to deny this request for a special event permit. Menlo Park encourages events like this that build community and bring people together and we encourage you to attend the event if you can.

Please let me know if you have any other questions about this event or the City's Special Event Permit process.

Cherise Brandell
Community Services Director
City of Menlo Park

We received in our mailbox yesterday a notification from The Menlo Park Skate Jam Organizer that Valparaiso Avenue between Altschul and Hallmark Circle will be closed to traffic from 9-5 on September 27 and 28 so that the Menlo Park Skate Jam can take place. It is signed by David Hiltbrand, Menlo Park Skate Jam Organizer 650-450-0837, David Hiltbrand _at_(domainremoved)
We taxpayers spent a fair amount to have a skateboard facility constructed at Burgess Park on Alma Street.
We object to this street closure as it sounds like a huge event. We have not had a good experience with skateboarding here. Has it been approved by the Menlo Park City Council? And if so, why?
