Your decision on the Wallea/San Mateo Drive intersections

Dear City Council Members,

I am writing to thank you for taking the time to evaluate the situation at the Wallea/San Mateo intersections. I am particularly grateful to Mayor Mueller and Mayor Pro Tem Carlton for their support of transportation staff 2014, transportation staff 2007, and the two Transportation Commissions, as well as our positions as residents of San Mateo Drive, and believing in the expertise of professionally-trained staff. Staff has been stellar throughout, respectful and steadfast and I could not think of them more highly.

Whoever mentioned kids biking off Middle, to Wallea and then Santa Cruz to get to Hillview either has no kids or they're not going to Hillview. Kids who bike to Hillview either bike up Middle, which has a bike lane, or up Santa Cruz. This goes to the astute observation Ray Mueller made that people who come out know the streets and how they are used. After 19 years at this address and several kids biking to Oak Knoll and Hillview, I'm quite familiar with the pattern.

I will point out that I found it very inappropriate that council member Keith repeatedly referred to a particular resident's email in the course of the discussion (by that person's name) as if it was the word from God. The resident in question has been involved in this issue for exactly as long as I have and I did not have a chance to take part in the discussion, only to give my one comment. Other people who wrote in did not have their names called out time and again. The same standard should apply to all residents. Involvement in local politics does not give greater weight to anyone's input on local traffic issues.

Again thank you for your consideration of the signage.
