regarding an "informational presentation by Mayor Ray Mueller regarding the
Silicon Valley delegation's trip to China".
International trips like this potentially result in a variety of benefits,
including, but not limited to, building relationships, establishing lines
of communication, exploring paths to economic development, providing
stepping stones for cultural, athletic and educational ties and a host of other
This prompts the question, should the City of Menlo Park consider a
membership with the prestigious organization known as the SISTER CITIES
This organization began over 50 years ago by President Dwight Eisenhower
and been supported by 100% of the Presidents ever since. Locally, Palo
Alto, Los Altos, Cupertino, Mountain View, Oakland and San Francisco are
members, to name just a few.
Over 500 U.S. cities are members with over 2,000 cities worldwide in over
100 countries. A few weeks ago their annual Conference was hosted by the
City of San Jose, who has a sister city in Dublin, Ireland.
The cost is minimal, however, the benefits are priceless.
