No wells in public parks (Re: Agenda Item SS-1)

Dear Councilmembers,

I am writing to urge you to listen to your constituents and your Environmental Quality Commission, and direct staff to stop all further investigation of the proposal to construct a groundwater well in one of the City's public parks.

Using our high-quality limited groundwater resources to irrigate a private golf course is not in the interest of the Menlo Park Water District or of the city at large. Further, construction of a well and related facilities in a public park degrades that open space for all park users and residents.

Please stop the continued investigation of this proposal, which has been flawed from the beginning and looks worse each time it gets pushed forward.

I urge the Council instead to proceed to work toward the City's water conservation goals by continuing discussions with the West Bay Sanitary District regarding construction of a satellite recycled water treatement facility. Use of recycled water to irrigate this large lawnscape would be the most effective use of our scarce and valuable water resources.

Thank you.
