Mayor and City Council members
RE: Item F1 on the City Council Agenda for February 25, 2014 regarding an update to the Menlo Park General Plan
I applaud  and support your initiative to update the Menlo Park General Plan. I attended four of the six City Commission meetings on the Update and provided comments at each of those meetings. In addition, I have spoken several times with the  Planning staff. I am in general support of the scope of work that staff has submitted to the City Council and recommend three additions. Staff indicated that I should email you with these recommendations and stated that they would be easy to accommodate within the scope of work. Of primary interest to me, is the issue of sea level rise. The City has wisely invested in the SAFER Bay project lead by San Francisquito JPA and should take advantage of the information and recommendations that are being developed by that effort. I understand from the executive director for the JPA that a document will be publically available in June 2014 which will fit within the timeline for your General Plan Update. Also, the area in Menlo Park projected to be most impacted by sea level rise is the M2 area. Therefore, before land use alternatives are considered sea level rise information should be assessed.
