Pope Chaucer Bridge

We are writing to protest the plans to armor the creek around the proposed
Pope-Chaucer bridge replacement.
Both bridge replacements proposed by the SFCJPA involve armoring of the creek banks both upstream and

downstream. The armoring is independent and not essential to the construction of the bridge.
Armoring (also called riprap) involves covering the banks with large rocks thus destroying all of the vegetation
on the banks including the large trees at the top. These trees and the creek habitat add great esthetic value to those of us who live near the bridge and add value to the properties
near the creek.

We strongly oppose any part of a bridge plan that destroys more trees than are necessary for the direct replacement of the
bridge structure itself.

This is a problem that needs a more creative approach than the standard bridge design tools.
