City Council Meetings - Public Engagement

Honorable Mayor and Council Members:
Here's an idea to consider.
If Council Members are allowed to call in to a meeting - why can't the good citizens of Menlo Park be allowed to call in too?  If the technology is there for one, shouldn't it be available for all?
If public engagement is being encouraged, and is an essential part of the democratic process, why not allow members from home, office or remotely from their cell phones call into a City Council meeting. To some, it may appear somewhat elistist to allow this priviledge for yourselves, and not make it available at the same time for others.
To insist that someone has to jump into their cars or bicycles, travel on busy streets to a council meeting, wait perhaps hours before their turn, is all avoidable. We live in year 2019, soon to be 2020. Please consider this idea. Who knows, it may help to put Menlo Park on the map as a leader in paving a way for the community to be more actively involved in local issues and further the communication and conversation in a healthy and productive way.
