On behalf of the SAMCEDA Board of Directors, please find below our comment for tonight's meeting regarding agenda item E1 - a proposed moratorium on development.

RE: Agenda Item E1 - Proposed Citywide Development Moratorium

Dear Mayor Mueller and Council Members,

Beginning in 1953 and continuing today, the San Mateo County Economic Development Association (SAMCEDA) has been a leading voice for the economic engine that is San Mateo County. SAMCEDA believes in the power of a strong economy driven by an appreciation of what that engine provides to our ecosystem on the Peninsula.

By working with employers of all sizes and industries, engaging with our public sector and our elected leadership, recognizing that we have 21 individual jurisdictions (20 cities and 1 county) and collaborating and communicating with the Chambers of Commerce, Non-Profit Organizations and our Educational Institutions, SAMCEDA tackles the most difficult challenges through goal oriented solutions.

We are writing today to express our deep concern with a proposed moratorium on development that includes any projects over 100 homes because we believe this will not address, as a community, the best way to move forward. We are fortunate to live in an area that people want to live and work. At SAMCEDA we recognize that change is happening at a pace that makes folks uncomfortable, places incredible stress on elected officials, staff, residents and businesses but we would advocate finding a path together that works to solve our challenges.

Simply put we have an opportunity to find solutions that are effective, thoughtful and responsible for our communities today and into the future.

We look forward to working with you and all the communities on the Peninsula to balance the needs of today with the hopes and dreams of those coming after us.

Thank you for your consideration.

Kindest regards,
Rikki Hawkins
