Upcoming Dumbarton Corridor bus speedup plans

Honorable Council Members,

In researching documents posted online, I recently that the MTC/Bay
Area Toll Authority has funded engineering for the Dumbarton Forward
set of operational improvements intended to speed buses along the
Dumbarton Corridor, including:

* Peak Period Bus on Shoulder (BOS) Pilot Program for Bayfront Expressway
* Signalization Improvements to Bayfront Expressway Intersections
* Reconfiguration of Eastbound SR 84/Thornton Avenue Off-Ramps
* Relocation of Ardenwood Park-Ride Bus Stops
* Improvements to Operations at the Dumbarton Bridge Toll Plaza

This is planned for implementation in 2021. The 101 managed lanes
project which would allow buses to use the fast lane is scheduled for
2022.

Hopefully these changes can alleviate some of the 84 traffic well
before a rail project is built.

A key question that the pilot will answer is whether routing buses on
the 84 shoulder to the 101 managed lane will be faster than coming up
the Willow gridlock even though the route is geographically longer.

Looking forward to these improvements moving forward.

Thanks for supporting these solutions with the city as a corridor stakeholder.
