Fremont Park

Dear City Council Members,

A few years ago, our one and only lovely green park in the downtown, Fremont Park, was stripped of its grass and covered instead with tanbark.
This was done to save water due to the drought back then, though I'm sure we could have kept our grass green without a significant loss of our water supply.
And though the city did finally replant grass in one section of the park, it left the other section with just the ugly tanbark.
Now, however, we're having an extremely wet year, so there's no need to worry about watering the grass.

I urge you, Council Members, to instruct the Parks and Recreation or whatever other agency is responsible for park upkeep, to remove the unsightly tanbark and restore our park to its former glory by planting grass again. If we do this now, residents will be able to enjoy a grassy park for our summer crafts fair and the concerts and community events that take place at Fremont Park in the warmer weather. I've lived in Menlo Park downtown for many years, and Fremont Park was always a delight until the invasion of the tanbark. The community loved this park when it was all grass!

You just can't sit on tanbark, and it's not nice for putting down blankets or towels either. Nor does it look good as you walk or drive by. It's not even nice for lawn chairs. And, if you look closely, you'll even see some blades of grass sprouting up amongst the tanbark. The grass wants to come back too!

Please give us our grass back!

Thanks so much,

Cherie Zaslawsky
