Trend toward smaller emergency equipment

Honorable Council Members and Fire Board members,

Here is a link to articles from a professional publications showing
* a trend toward using smaller equipment for emergency response. As an
increasing share of emergency services are dedicated toward medical
emergencies and not fires which require large ladder trucks.
* the use of smaller fire equipment in Europe that can safely traverse
populated areas

As the Council and Fire board discuss methods of improving emergency
response and city policies that can maximize safety, I would encourage
consideration of a long-term strategy to have a mix of appropriately sized
vehicles that can provide emergency response while maintaining and
improving the everyday safety of our roadways for people driving, bicycling
and walking.
