Re: Menlo Park City Council to hear tenant relocation assistance on Feb. 26

Though I am unable to attend Tuesday’s meeting, I wanted to let the city council know that I am strongly in favor of Menlo Park adopting tenant relocation assistance. As a Menlo Park teacher who grew up here and would like to be able to stay here, I am relieved to learn of any help I may be able to get should my rent increase beyond my income. I have spent at least 7 years on the Below Market Rate lists for rental and purchase to no avail. I am hopeful that something will come up so that I can stay in Menlo Park and continue contributing to the city’s well-being as a teacher, library commissioner, and volunteer.

Unrelated to the tenant relocation assistance program, I am troubled to hear that housing is being built in one part of the city but the BMR residences that go with the housing are in other parts of the city. That seems to defeat the point. I am pleased that the new council seems committed to supporting low income residents towards home ownership but I hope you will enforce the requirements with integrity.

Thank you for your support!
