Dear Clay,

I am writing to express my vehement opposition to this proposed ordinance.
In all fairness to whomever came up with this seemingly half baked proposal
I wonder if there are some unknown extenuating circumstances that resulted
in this idea ever even getting this far. If there are please let me know so
I can revise my response. Otherwise, I think this is a terrible idea and
should not be considered any further. It doesn’t take a genius to figure
out that this idea would never work the way it is intended to work-whatever
that is. Any increase in the cost to landlords will of course be passed on
to the tenants ultimately. Not everyone gets to live in Menlo Park just
like not everyone gets to be the queen of England. People have to move out
of houses all the time. It’s an opportunity for a new beginning. My family
moved all the time when I was a kid. The first year I went to the same
school two years in a row was in high school. I turned out OK-college grad,
medical school grad, practiced anesthesiology for 30 years. My advice to
any tenants in Menlo Park is to work really hard, get a good education,
save their money, delay some gratification, and they, too, will achieve
financial security someday.

Thank you.
