Tenant Relocation Ordinance Proposal

Dear City Council Members,

I urge you to vote no on the upcoming tenant relocation ordinance proposal.
I speak as Durable Power of Attorney for my mother (who owns a condominium
unit in Menlo Park) to say the proposal is unfair and unworkable. My
parents lived in Menlo Park for ~ 45 years, and my mother moved to an
assisted living situation recently for health reasons after my father
passed away. If she desired other family members to occupy the property or
if she passed on, there will be no recourse but to pay the exorbitant
displacement fee. Also, it is quite likely that her own care expenses (for
which she uses the rental income) will get higher in the future and may not
be linked to the CPI. That the displacement fee is available to couples
making up to 200% (~190,000$) of the median income in Menlo Park does not
protect the low-income, who have been displaced by the high rents due to
Google, Facebook, and other lucrative technologies with their giant
populations of workers. These corporations (with their billions of income)
should build their own housing on their own campuses.

This proposal is an unfair take-over of private property and we urge you to
recognize it as such.

Best regards,

Mylo Schaaf
