Request for Menlo Park to support the Clean Cars 2040 Act

Dear Mayor Ohtaki and Council Members,


This is to urge you to support the state's Clean Cars 2040 Act.


This bill, AB 1745
s-clean-cars-2040> , provides that new model-year 2040 and later passenger
vehicles sold in California must be zero emissions vehicles. Menlo
Park-based Coltura, the Sierra Club, Earthjustice, Stand.Earth, Environment
California, Center for Climate Protection, 350 Bay Area, 350 Silicon Valley,
NextGen California, Brightline Defense, Plug In America and Fossil Free
California are among its chief supporters.


This legislation will greatly reduce air pollution and carbon emissions from
gas-powered cars, in Menlo Park and across the state. It will send a clear
signal that the gasoline era is ending, thereby immediately disincentivizing
coastal oil drilling. It will move billions of dollars from foreign oil to
local electricity. The certain sunset date allows utilities, automakers,
governments and businesses to prepare for a smooth, orderly, and economical

There is some urgency, as this bill must pass the Assembly Transportation
Committee in a vote on April 16 to move to the full Assembly.
