Voting system changes

Dear Councilmembers,

Regarding the demand that Menlo Park change our voting system, I hope you will take action as needed to avoid litigation, and also reach out to negotiate time and to explore the possibility of implementing ranked choice voting rather than being limited to in-district or by-district elections as a choice of remedy.

The benefits of ranked choice voting, as described by FairVote.org here, are several and significant. Of particular importance to me are that to discourage negative campaigning, to level the playing field for minority and women candidates, and encourage voter participation among voters of color.
