Consent Calendar Item I-3

From: domainremoved <Bob>
Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2017 16:06:41 -0700

Menlo Park Councilmembers:

I ask that Item I-3 pertaining to Haven Avenue be pulled form tonight's
Consent Calendar so that the plans for the street configuration can be
revised to provide better safety for cyclists and to promote safe,
healthful, active transportation in the Mid-Peninsula.

The proposed 5-foot southbound bike lane around a 90-degree corner would
not provide adequate safety for cyclists on this busy corridor with
impatient motorists. Some southbound motorists, and potentially trucks,
are likely to cut the right-angle corner and cross into the bike lane,
even if the lane is colored green. Protection for cyclists should be
improved by adding a 2-foot hashed buffer to the left of the green bike
lane around this corner. The buffer would help slow motorists and deter
them from cutting into the bike lane.

Thank you for your consideration.
