Sanctuary City status

April 18, 2017

I've been living in Menlo Park for the last 29 years. I worked as a school nurse in the Ravenswood school district for 3 years. This is an issue that is dear to my heart. I am for Menlo Park becoming a sanctuary city. I think our positive action in this direction will help push the others in the same direction. This act will decrease fear in our community, increase the reporting of crimes, help improve police relations with the immigrant population, help keep families together, increase use of health and social services, help keep kids enrolled in schools, and enhance overall public safety.

I think President Trump's January 25, 2017 executive order directing the secretary of homeland security and the attorney general to take federal funds away from sanctuary cities is overstepping his authority under our constitution.

Thank you for bringing this issue to a vote.
