bike route on Gilbert Ave

Dear City Council Members,
I live on Gilbert Avenue with my wife and two sons. I would like to
request that you strongly consider installing bike lanes on Gilbert
south/east of Willow Rd instead of sharrows. Our street is an important
main thoroughfare for people (especially children) on bicycles who ride to
and from school, or to the store, or to visit with friends and neighbors.
With the opening of the new Upper Laurel school in the Willows, Gilbert
will be used even more by children biking to school (including my youngest
son). The traffic on Gilbert has increased significantly with the increase
of traffic on Willow, University, and 101, as motorists look for
cut-throughs to try to avoid this traffic. These motorists are often
speeding and distracted, and we have major concerns over the safety of
children and bicyclists in general who use Gilbert. Having dedicated bike
lanes would provide significantly safer conditions for the many children in
the Willows and Vintage Oaks neighborhoods, and would encourage more people
to use bicycles.

Thank you for your consideration.
