Honorable Mayor and Council Members:
During the recent discussions about PUBLIC BENEFITS, the speaker discussed
the option of a sustained, organized source of funding for certain
earmarked activities. In that spirit, I'd like to request serious consideration
for using TWO PERCENT of funds set aside for Public Benefits to be available
in a city fund for use as a cultural enhancement.
Brick and mortar address many needs, but only culture in the form of art
touches the human spirit. Menlo Park has been without an ART COMMISSION for

been offered to the community.
With the many development projects underway, both commercial and
residential, the time to step up the activity for public art is N O W.

At one time a public spirited citizen offered a substantial amount to "jump
start" the art program. The City Council respectfully heard the request
during Public Comment No. 1, but replied simply by saying "next speaker". I
can tell you that citizen was humiliated, as no one, that is, city council
members, staff or others, followed up. It fell on deaf ears.
Today we have an opportunity to make a difference in the quality of life
for our citizens. Public art may be one way to accomplish that.
